Ex-Everton youngster set for bright future
Oldham manager Paul Dickov believes that former Everton striker Jose Baxter will make a return to the Premier League later in his career.
The 20-year-old, tipped as a future star while with Everton, found himself without a club during the summer.
But Baxter has proved his worth at Boundary Park, scoring 11 times in 25 games, and he signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract with the Latics on Saturday.
And Dickov feels that Oldham is providing him with the perfect platform for relaunching his career.
“I think he can play at the top level with the ability he’s got.”
“One thing he has to do is play games on a consistent basis and he knows he’ll get that here.”
“He appreciates the chance that he’s been given and he feels that, with the work we’re doing with him, he’s improved already. He can only get better.”
Baxter made just one top-flight start for Everton and he rejected a new contract with the Toffees in search of first-team football.
The Liverpool-born forward signed a short-term deal with Oldham a month into the new season and his impressive performances this term have seen the Latics ensure his stay at Boundary Park continues, with the signing of a new long-term deal.
