Former Everton star Tim Cahill is hoping to make a loan move back to the club in January when his season with the New York Red Bulls comes to an end.

Cahill joined the Red Bulls in the summer after eight successful years at Goodison Park and is hoping after the conclusion of the MLS season to return to Merseyside.

The Australian knows he will be unable to achieve success this season as his side are now out of the running for the MLS cup and the 32-year-old hopes a move back to familiar shores will also keep his fitness levels up.

The attacking midfielder still has a year left on his contract and remains fully committed to the MLS club, but still believes he has more to offer in the Premier League.

“I have been watching a lot of the games and I believe I have got a lot more to offer,” Cahill told Sky Sports News.

“There is no shadow of a doubt that I am definitely eager to come back on loan.

“If Everton is an option then hopefully something can be done. If not, then I am definitely eager to play football anyway.

“It would be nice, but it is not down to me. I have to respect the fact that sometimes the ship has sailed.

“It is not in my hands. It would be great. If it is, it is. If it isn’t, I just want to play football.”

Everton have been known to take advantage of the MLS close season in the past with the Toffees previously having secured a loan move for LA Galaxy star Landon Donovan.
