Everton hero Leon Osman believes that his side can finish above bitter rivals Liverpool next season.

Both Merseyside clubs enjoyed excellent campaigns last time around, with Brendan Rodgers and Roberto Martinez both extracting finishes that exceeded expectations.

The Reds took the title battle to the final day of the season before losing out to Manchester City, while Everton narrowly missed out on a top four finish.

Liverpool have since sold star man Luis Suarez and embarked on a £90m shopping spree to snap up six new first-team players, while the Toffees have made Romelu Lukaku’s loan move to Goodison a permanent one in a club record £28m deal.

When asked by talkSPORT if his side can come out on top in this season’s addition of the clubs’ rivalry, Osman said:

“Yes we can. It’s going to be difficult though.

“Liverpool have strengthened, but so have we.

“We both have extra commitments with Europe this year but we aim to finish above them every season.”

Prior to last term, Everton had finished above Liverpool on the last two occasions.

Why can’t they finish above Chelsea, or Arsenal or even Man City. Why must they need to finish above Liverpool. If they are hungry enough they must finish above all clubs.
