Gareth Bale believes that more British footballers should opt to move abroad if they get the opportunity.

The Welsh ace left Tottenham to sign for Real Madrid in a world-record deal over the summer after an impressive Premier League campaign.

Despite fears that he may find it difficult to settle in Spain, Bale has made a fine start to life at the Bernebeu, striking up a good on-field partnership with Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo – netting 10 goals in the process.

Only a handful of footballers from the UK have opted to move abroad in recent times, with Michael Owen and David Beckham – who both joined Real – two of the more famous examples.

Bale says that he is loving life at his new club, and that more players should make the same decision as he has.

“Every other country’s players move to England at a young age and there’s no right or wrong age to move – you should do it when you want to or an opportunity comes up,” Bale told The Mirror.

“For me, I wanted to learn more about different types of football, other cultures and test myself.

“If other players have that opportunity, I don’t see any reason why they shouldn’t take it – you can make yourself a better all-round player and person.”

Bale is rumoured to have rejected interest from Manchester United over the summet to join Real.
