Hull boss Steve Bruce is set to launch a fresh move for West Brom striker Shane Long once the January transfer window opens, according to reports from The Sun.

The Tigers failed with a £6m swoop for the Republic of Ireland international over the summer, as their Premier League rivals elected to pull the plug on the deal despite the player being set to undergo a medical.

Even with the disappointment still fresh in his mind, Bruce is ready to make a fresh move for the 26-year-old next month.

The Hull chief still sees the former Reading star as the ideal mad to spearhead his attack as he plots to keep the Humberside outfit in the top tier.

He is hopeful that the lack of loyalty shown to Long during the last window will be enough to persuade the forward to chase a move to the KC Stadium.

The hit-man started the season on the peripheries of the Baggies’ first-team, but has since been welcomed back into the starting XI on a more regular basis.

Uncertainty at the Hawthorns may be enough to ease him out of the door, with Steve Clarke’s successor not yet known.
