Midfielder Cesc Fabregas has been the subject of boos from the Barcelona faithful recently and it has alerted Manchester United as well as former club Arsenal, Daily Mail reports.

With every touch of the ball, fans at the Nou Camp could be heard whistling at the 26-year-old especially after Barca’s Champions League exit and their King’s Cup defeat to Real Madrid.

The latest incident came in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Athletic Bilbao, but both coach Gerardo Martino and Barcelona directors have defended the Spanish international, who has become a bit of a scapegoat for their recent dip in form.

Team-mate Andres Iniesta said: “Of course it hurts to see Cesc jeered. You try to ignore it and hope it does not happen, but these situations are not comfortable.”

Fabregas’ agents are expected to discuss their client’s future with the club, who are also looking to extend Lionel Messi’s contract which could cause key changes to the first team.

But with Barcelona handed a transfer ban last week, it may not be a possibility for the former Arsenal man to move on this summer.
