Barcelona youngster Marco Bartra has revealed he is close to signing a new deal at the Nou Camp, effectively ending Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur‘s hopes of signing him in January, reports talkSPORT.

The 22-year-old defender has made eight starts for the La Liga side already this season, which is as many as he made in La Liga last season. His first-team breakthrough at the Nou Camp indicates he has a future under manager Gerardo Martino.

And the Spaniard admits he is in talks about a contract renewal and hopes to remain at the club for many years.

“I am calm. My renewal is on the right path. I’m happy because I’ve played more games this than at the same point last year,” Bartra told El Mundo Deportivo.

“The club has given me everything. I hope to be here for many years and to succeed.”

The news will come as a blow to both Liverpool and Spurs who have been linked with a potential €10million bid in January, but it appears Bartra is ready to turn down a move to England to continue his development at the La Liga champions.

Bartra made his Barcelona debut in February 2010 and has since made steady progress as a worthwhile back up to Carles Puyol. Last season saw him make 16 appearances in all competitions, while this year he has one goal in 11 first-team appearances, as well as earning his first international cap for Spain last month in a 2-1 friendly win over Equatorial Guinea.
