England’s opening Group D match in Brazil didn’t go as planned, but we can all agree that there were a number of positives to take from the performance.

Roy Hodgson has been praised for selecting a fresh looking squad full of young talent to compete in Brazil and we were able to see just how right that decision was on Saturday night against Italy.

One of the stand out performers in Manaus was Raheem Sterling, who put in one of the most promising performances of his career so far and one that would’ve had the rest of the world stand up and notice the direction in which England are heading.

And there was a moment in the second-half that proved just how good the Liverpool youngster is. He picked the ball up and just glided past two Italians, leaving them in his trail, making it look so easy, it’s wrong.

For a 19-year-old to perform with such confidence in his first ever World Cup appearance, England fans should be excited about what the future holds for Roy’s Boys…
