Liverpool lead Newcastle and Napoli in the race to sign Udinese star Emmanuel Badu, according to the Daily Star.

Reports in Italy suggest the Reds lead the race for the 23-year-old Ghanian international’s signature, although his club are not set to consider his future until after the summer’s World Cup.

The young midfielder has played a key part in Udinese’s season, managing 24 appearances and netting three goals.

Badu has previously been scouted by both Arsenal and Tottenham, and is capable of playing in both midfield and defence.

Liverpool are also able to offer the prospect of Champions League football, although regular first team football would be by no means a guarantee at Anfield.

Udinese would be expected to demand a figure in the region of £7million for the 23-year-old.

Liverpool’s 3-2 win over Manchester City saw the Reds retain their position at the top of the Premier League table, and means that if they win their four remaining matches they will win their first league title in 24 years.
