Liverpool are preparing an £8million move for Cardiff City’s Steven Caulker, according to the Daily Star.

The 22-year-old defender enjoyed an impressive debut season at Cardiff, despite being unable to prevent them from being relegated back to the Championship at the first time of asking.

And Rodgers is weighing up the chance to bring the England international to Anfield this summer, with tightening up his defence his top priority.

Rodgers gave Caulker his Premier League debut at Swansea two-years ago and believes he is the perfect player to help plug his leaky defence next season.

The Reds tried to buy Caulker off Tottenham last summer but the North London club refused to sell to a rival, paving the way for Cardiff to complete a move.

And Tottenham could still have their say in Liverpool’s latest move for the defender, with Spurs having first refusal to buy him back should they want him.

Caulker played in every Premier League fixture for Cardiff this season, scoring five goals.
