Atletico Madrid are considering a move for Liverpool’s Pepe Reina if they are unable to secure Thibaut Courtois’ signature from Chelsea, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Spaniard is currently away from Anfield on a season-long loan at Napoli, and has been widely touted as a potential successor to Victor Valdes at Barcelona for some time – with that Catalans’ stopper set to leave the club at the end of the season

However, with the La Liga champions believed to be closing in on German keeper Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Reina’s future has been thrown further into doubt.

Atletico are keen on the idea of luring the La Roja glovesman back to his homeland, but only if they cannot secure a deal to keep Courtois.

The Belgian ace has been on loan at the Vicente Calderon since signing for Chelsea in 2011, and is believed to worried at the lack of guaranteed action should he return to London.

Atletico are willing to promise him a starting berth, but the Blues are not open to the idea of selling.

Reina is widely thought to have already played his last game for Liverpool, and is expected to be leaving the Merseyside club on a permanent basis in six months time.

If he does move to Atletico he will be following in the footsteps of his father, Miguel, who played for the Madrid side in the 1970s.
