Swansea.

The Reds had lost twice in the six days prior to their clash with the Swans, with back-to-back defeats at the hands of West Brom and Zenit Saint Petersburg.

This has led to a sense that the club’s season is ticking towards an end, with any hopes of Champions League qualification fading and their Europa League fate dependent on a tough home tie with their Russian rivals.

Rodgers was thrilled with his team’s response, and the way in which they took the game to Swansea throughout the 90 minutes:

“It was a brilliant performance and it’s a big applause to the players because their attitude was fantastic throughout the game.” He told Sky Sports.

“It was important for us today for a clean sheet, believe it or not even though we scored five goals and I think we had 35 shots.

“It was our main focus going out of the game was about being defensively solid and compact against obviously a Swansea team and players that I know very well.

“So all round a fantastic performance and a good three points for us.”

However, it was not all positive news for the Northern Irishman, with striker Fabio Borini being forced off of the pitch through injury late on.

The Italian, a second-half substitute, appeared to injure his shoulder whilst attempting a sliding challenge.

Rodgers confirmed after the game that he is likely to miss the rest of the season:

“I think he’ll be out for the season. It’s unfortunate for Fabio because he done his other shoulder before and had a similar thing so it looks like the early stages of that again, but the other shoulder which is a big disappointment.

“He came on for 15 minutes and looked quite bright in his movement and he worked very hard to try and stop the forward pass and obviously got injured.”
