Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that his squad lacks depth, and will look to reinforce his contingent in the January transfer window.

The Reds are short in a number of areas, but attack has been identified as a key position that the Merseysiders need to bolster.

With Andy Carroll on loan at West Ham, Fabio Borini and Luis Suarez are the only recognised forwards at the Anfield club.

With Italian forward Borini picking up an injury on international duty last week, Rodgers is down to only Suarez as an option up front.

With Celtic’s Gary Hooper and Arsenal’s contract rebel Theo Walcott potential targets, the Northern Irish boss has confessed that he would like to bring in new players in the new year.

“There are still areas we want to reinforce — and we have to reinforce as soon as we can,” Rodgers is quoted as saying by The Daily Mail.

“Our best team are comparable to any team in the Premier League. But we’re a very thin squad and we are having to challenge on a lot of fronts.

“I’ve had good conversations with the owners and they understand where we are at as a team,” he concluded.

The Reds have toiled so far this season with only one victory to date, and are down in 14th place with only six points from their first seven games.

Rodgers’ men take on Reading at home after the international break, with Rodgers keen to get his first Premier League victory at Anfield as Liverpool boss.
