Amid the chaos of any transfer window you’re always likely to get your high profile moves, but at the same time it is often those that slip the radar that prove to be the most successful.

Mohamed Salah is hardly a household name in England, but those that saw him play against Tottenham and Chelsea in the last couple of years will realise what a talent the Egyptian looks set to be.  At 21 he has all the pace you would expect from an incisive wide man, but what separates him from many of the other quality wingers is his technical ability and all round attacking craft. Salah is not a man that is simply reliant on his pace, unlike say a Sterling or Townsend he already has technical abilities required nailed down remarkably for a man of his age.

Unsurprisingly Salah is already attracting an array of suitors, with Liverpool apparently leading the Premier League charge for his signature. His agent Sascha Empacher has confirmed that Liverpool are interested but a deal is nowhere near completion. Empacher said: “Talks with Liverpool are ongoing. They want him. But they need agreement with Basel.”

If Liverpool move fast there is a real possibility of pulling off an absolute steal here, but the worry is that Basel are stalling as they continue to consider bids from elsewhere. Zenit appear to represent the main competition for Liverpool, and according to the Express they look set to blow the Reds out of the water with a huge bid.

The existence of such a bid is still pretty unclear, and really the only concrete approach as yet appears to be from the Merseysiders. The fact figures as low as £7m are being mooted would point towards the fact the Russians are yet to make their advances. Former Egypt coach Bob Bradley has already made his thoughts on the deal clear:

“I was saying yesterday that in Egypt, a great success story in the last two years is a young player called Mohamed Salah,” Bradley said.

“He left and we helped him to leave Egypt first to FC Basel, and from what I read and hear, in the coming days you will see his name again because I think it will be a big transfer to a Premiership team.”

Salah’s abilities have already been tested on the European stage, a goal to help beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge just further added to his ever-growing stock. This was all on the back of an impressive couple of performances against Spurs in the Europa League during which he almost single handedly tore the North Londoners backline apart.

Even at 21 there are very few that see Salah as a risk, not someone with potential but without the guarantees of ever realising it. Remarkably mature and undoubtedly gifted, it is almost scary to imagine how good the Liverpool frontline could be if they added the Egyptian to their ranks.

A lot of people have been quick to highlight the likes of Diego Costa, Koke and Falcao as the big deals to be done this window. I don’t doubt the fact that these are incredibly gifted individuals, but it wouldn’t be overstating Salah’s quality to put him up there with these illustrious names when it comes to the current window. Anything short of £20m would be short change for a man of his quality, and considering the suggestions at the minute that the bidding has started a lot lower, Liverpool may well be the ones smiling come February 1st.
