Daniel Agger hails Reina’s turnaround
Daniel Agger believes that Liverpool team-mate Pepe Reina is back to his “world class” best, following a shaky start to the season.
The Spaniard has made a number of high profile errors this term, as he, and some of the Reds’ other defensive players, struggled to adapt to new manager Brendan Rodgers’ playing style.
But, in recent weeks Reina’s form has improved, culminating in a fine display as Liverpool beat Wigan 4-0 on Saturday.
Agger feels that his team-mate is back on form, and stated just how important the stopper is to the Merseysiders:
“Pepe was world class against Wigan,” He is quoted by The Mirror.
“He had a few great saves and he deserves a lot of credit for his performance.
“It says it all if you can have a goalkeeper you can rely on at the back, both with the feet and on the line. Against Wigan, he showed the best of himself.”
The win at the DW Stadium made it three victories on the bounce for Liverpool, as they appear to have put their early season woes behind them.
With ten games left to play the Anfield side are ten points adrift of the Champions League spots.
But, instead of setting any targets, Agger revealed that the squad are just focused on putting together a run of solid results and seeing where they end up:
“I hope we are beginning to find some consistency because that’s what we need,
“It’s vital to get as high up the table as possible. That’s the target.”
