Liverpool striker Luis Suarez’s participation for Uruguay at the World Cup has been plunged into major doubt following reports that the 27 year old underwent knee surgery earlier this morning. The forward apparently suffered the injury to his meniscus in training yesterday. Suarez’s mother has attempted to allay any fears by suggesting her son will return in three weeks, but other reports suggest that the necessary recovery time will rule the striker out of action in Brazil.

As a key member of one of England’s Group D rivals, fans of the Three Lions took to Twitter to welcome the news. Although nobody would have wished injury on a rival player, even one as controversial as Suarez, there is an undeniable feeling that England’s chances have been boosted as a result.

Others hope that the one of the best strikers in the world will return in time to grace the biggest footballing stage of them all.

But even if Suarez misses the World Cup, Uruguay have another forward that may cause England one or two problems in Sao Paulo on June 19th.
