Former Liverpool idol Jamie Carragher believes that Steven Gerrard deserves to a Premier League winner’s medal.

The Reds captain has won just about every other prize on offer in English club football during a glittering career-long spell at Anfield, and inspired his side to some truly momentous results – including their 2005 Champions League victory against AC Milan in Istanbul.

However, Gerrard has been unable to lift the biggest trophy of all on Merseyside.

Despite having offers throughout his career to leave his boyhood team, the 33-year-old has remained loyal, but has ultimately come no closer to the missing medal than in 2009 when his side narrowly missed out on the title to Manchester United.

But with Liverpool in contention this term, Carragher feels that no football fan could begrudge the midfielder glory at the end of the season:

“I don’t believe he needs the medal to cement his legacy but if you are a genuine football fan, for everything he has done over the past 15 years, you should want to see him complete his collection.” He wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.

“There are parallels with his current situation to how it was for Bryan Robson at United in the early 1990s, a club captain who had enjoyed great success, led his country with distinction but had found the one honour he craved most of all frustratingly out of reach.”
