Hannover president Martin Kind has confessed that goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler may be sold at the end of the season.

The German stopper – a former Manchester United player – has been linked with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks to give Simon Mignolet greater competition for his starting spot.

Zieler has blossomed since leaving Old Trafford, and is now thought of as one of the Bundesliga’s top ‘keepers.

Despite his importance to Hannover, the 24-year-old has a clause in his contract which could allow him to leave for a big club if his current side fail to qualify for European competition.

Although keen to keep Zieler, Kind is aware that he may have to be sold:

“If we don’t reach our goals, then it cannot be ruled out that he suddenly activates a clause in his contract,” he is quoted by Sky Sports.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is thought to see Zieler as an ideal replacement for current reserve goalkeeper Brad Jones.

The Australian has rarely been in action for the Merseyside club since joining them from Middlesbrough, but doubts surrounding his ability to perform at the highest level are thought to be worrying the ex-Swansea chief.

Should Liverpool move for Ron-Robert Zieler?
