Rickie Lambert wants to use the chance he never thought he’d get to win the Premier League title with Liverpool.

The much-travelled 32-year-old sealed a fairy-tale move back to his boyhood club from Southampton earlier this summer after rising through the Football League following his release from their youth team as a teenager.

The now 32-year-old played for the likes of Rochdale and Bristol Rovers before joining the Saints, whom he fired from League One to top tier safety.

With his career having taken many twists and turns, Lambert thought that he’d never get the chance to play for his hometown club, but he says that he’s ready to seize the opportunity and fire last season’s runners-up to top spot:

“To be honest, I wasn’t expecting a chance at Liverpool but I have got it.” He is quoted by the Daily Star.

“Now that I’ve got it I will do everything to not let it go and I am more than confident that I will take the chance and I will be able to improve my game again.

“I am mentally prepared for almost anything. I’ve experienced a lot of ups and downs and I believe I am at a time in my life when anything happens I can get the most out of it.

“I know what matters is what I do on the pitch and the minutes I play [and my job is] to help push the club forward.

“Whatever role Brendan has for me I just hope I can help them push on and hopefully clinch the title.

“I can’t wait to get started. I want to hit the ground running, I want to start well and I believe I will.”
