Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson believes he can still become a key player at Anfield despite a disappointing spell at the club so far.

The 22-year-old arrived on Merseyside during the summer of 2011 in a £16 deal from Sunderland and featured heavily under former Reds manager Kenny Dalglish.

However, new manager Brendan Rodgers has limited his playing time, with the Northern Irishman appearing to favour the likes of Jonjo Shelvey, Nuri Sahin and Joe Allen in the central midfield positions.

Despite this, Henderson still feels he has a future at the club:

“From the outside it probably looks like that, because of how much I played last year while this season I haven’t started a Premier League game.” He responded when asked by SkySports if he thought he had been written off by Rodgers.

“But I am coming into training every day, working hard and learning all the things I need to learn and I will continue to learn the game as the manager keeps telling me.

“I am very focused on what I need to do and it doesn’t make a difference what anyone else thinks. I want my future to be at Liverpool so I’ll give everything every day to make sure that happens.

“It is hard. It is not easy to think long term, especially when I’ve played a lot of games in the Premier League, considering my age.

“Now I’m 22 and not playing as regularly as I would like to but, then again, I have got to take on board what the people are saying around me and try to improve myself as a player.

“I definitely think in the future, given the opportunity, I will take it and become a first-team regular for Liverpool.”
