Daniel Agger has informed Liverpool that he’s ready to re-join Brondby before the transfer window closes and the club will allow him to head home, according to reports from The Telegraph.

The Reds’ vice-captain is expected to leave Anfield before Monday night’s deadline passes, with the arrival of Dejan Lovren having plunged his first-team role into doubt.

Switches to the likes of Barcelona – who have had £15m+ bids rejected in the past – and Napoli have been mooted for much of the summer, but neither club have firmed up any interest.

Brondby on the other hand have been clear in their desire to get their former hero back, but it has always seemed unlikely that a deal could go through.

Yet Agger himself is keen to return to his boyhood club, where, at 29, he could end his playing career.

The Dane left his homeland in 2006 to join Liverpool, where he has enjoyed much success despite enduring a torrid time with injuries.

The Merseyside club are said to have accepted a small fee from Brondby, which will allow them to present the defender with an attractive contract.
