Daniel Agger believes that his Liverpool team-mates can cope with the pressure over the course of the Premier League’s title climax.

The Reds are shock contenders for English football’s top prize after an impressive season, and are currently just one place and four points off of leaders Chelsea.

Although they are still considered as outsiders in the battle, Brendan Rodgers’ men will play host to the Blues and Manchester City before the campaign ends.

Liverpool have not won the title in 24 years, and have only truly been close to doing so once in recent history – during the 2008/09 season.

However, Agger feels that he and his team-mates have the mentality to handle the growing expectation at Anfield:

“When you play for Liverpool Football Club there is always pressure and that won’t change between now and the end of the season,” he is quoted by The Express.

“Part of playing for this club is being able to handle that pressure. I think the players here have proved over the course of this season that they are more than capable of doing that.

“We have had some great results and there have been a few times when we have been all the way up there at the top.”

However the Dane – who is Liverpool’s vice captain following Jamie Carragher’s retirement at the end of last season – is adamant that the hard work is not over:

“We are in a good position, but we are only in March. There is still a long way to go and a lot of points to play for.

“We haven’t achieved anything yet and we need to keep going over the final 10 games.

“We have some big games against teams close to us in the table. They are games we have to win.”
