Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that his side’s Premier League title dreams are now over and that Manchester City will lift the trophy following his team’s 3-3 draw at Crystal Palace.

The Reds moved to the summit of the table by taking a point from Selhurst Park, but with City having a game in hand ahead of the final fixture of the season and a superior goal difference, the Merseysiders’ hopes look bleak.

Liverpool had led Palace 3-0, but two goals from substitute Dwight Gayle and a deflected Damien Delaney strike in the last 15 minutes earned the Eagles a draw.

Although the Anfield side are by no means mathematically out of the running for the title, Rodgers believes that their hopes are gone after failing to win in south London:

When asked by Sky Sports if his team’s chances had eroded, he said:

“Yes, I think we needed to win tonight to keep the pressure on.

“Manchester City, they have got two home games now, two tough games, but we needed to win it. I think Manchester City will go on and win their two games and they will be champions.

“But for us it’s been an outstanding season up until now. For us to get 81 points, it’s a great achievement. We’re obviously disappointed now but we’ll go again.”

Manchester City take on Aston Villa and West Ham at home in the coming days, while Liverpool face a final day clash against Newcastle.
