Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed his intention to resolve Glen Johnson’s contractual issues in the summer.

The England international will enter the final year of a £120,000-per-week contract once the season ends, and so far discussions between the parties have been minimal.

It is understood that the Reds’ owners are keen to slash the figure as they look to reduce their spending, with the defender now approaching 30.

But Johnson himself is believed to be reluctant to do so, particularly with the likes of Real Madrid and Arsenal rumoured to be watching the situation closely.

But despite the problems, Rodgers says that he wants to reach an agreement with his star full-back:

“We want to keep Glen here – there is no question about that, especially now he’s in this form,” he is quoted by The Mirror.

“He’s 29 and we feel that he has still got good years ahead of him. No contracts will be looked at until the summer but his will be a priority for us, especially if he continues in the form that he’s in.”

Although Liverpool look set for a financial boost as Champions League qualification beckons, they are believed to be looking to save cash for big summer arrivals.
