Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says that he is ready to follow his new contract with major signings this summer.

The Northern Irishman penned a fresh four-year deal on the back of a fantastic 2013/14 campaign yesterday, and is rumoured to have money to spend in the coming months.

The return of Champions League football to Anfield and the vast riches from prize and TV money last term has led to speculation that Rodgers has upwards of £60m to invest in new arrivals as he plots a fresh title challenge.

Southampton captain Adam Lallana and Bayer Leverkusen’s Emre Can are just two names to have been linked with the Reds, with deals for the pair thought to be close.

Rodgers says that he has major plans for the coming transfer window and that he hopes to get multiple signings through the door:

“That’s the idea.” He is quoted as having said by the Daily Star when asked if he was aiming to get a few new faces in. “Obviously it’s the off-season and we have the World Cup and other various things going on.

“People need to refresh and have a break because we have a long season ahead next season.

“But in the meantime, we’re still working on signings, the staff behind the scenes, myself, the recruitment team, Ian Ayre – we’re all working hard still in terms of looking to get players in.

“Of course, at the club, where we are now, the signings are complex; they are not all simple signings.

“But we need to strengthen up the squad and that’s something that we’re working hard to do over the next number of weeks.”
