Brendan Rodgers wants his Liverpool side to follow up their ninth Premier League win on the spin with another three points in next weekend’s title showdown with Manchester City.

The Reds secured a vital 2-1 victory against West Ham at Upton Park yesterday courtesy of two Steven Gerrard penalties, in a game that was marred by refereeing controversy.

The result leaves the title in Liverpool’s hands, with Rodgers’ men knowing that if they win all five of their remaining fixtures they will claim English football’s top prize for the first time in 24 years.

City are, arguably, their main contenders for the trophy, which has led to next Sunday’s Anfield clash being dubbed a winner takes all affair.

Speaking after the West Ham triumph, Rodgers told Sky Sports that he hopes his team can continue their shock title challenge with a win over the Sky Blues:

“It’s going to be a great game.

“It’s nine games on the spin now, which is an incredible effort by the players and the staff. Today was a really tough game for us, now we will recover and reflect on the game.

“It is going to be a magnificent atmosphere at Anfield. The supporters really urged us on today and we want to see if we can get 10 in a row.”
