Liverpool are close to dealing a £7m January deal for Basel winger Mohamed Salah, according to reports from The Mirror.

The man dubbed ‘The Egyptian Messi’ thanks to his fine technical skills and eye for goal has been in electric form for his current side this term, attracting admiring glances from some of the continent’s biggest clubs.

Liverpool are firmly in the race for the 21-year-old, and are ready to lure him to the Premier League ahead of a number of their arrivals.

Recent reports suggested that deal was very close for the wide-man – with one of his former team-mates saying that it was 99% completed – and now it has emerged that the Reds are nearing a £7m agreement.

Salah – who netted home and away against Chelsea in the Champions league this term – has indicated to the Merseyside club that he is keen to make the move, which will not be met by much resistance by Basel who are aware of the financial issues raised by dropping out of Europe’s top club competition at the group stage.

Brendan Rodgers is particularly keen to snap up the North African star, who is comfortable on either flank or in a more central role, as he looks to keep his side in the title race.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are also looking at Sevilla’s £8m rated midfielder Ivan Rakitic, while Daniel Agger will be allowed to complete a loan deal with a view to a permanent move to Napoli if adequate cover can be sourced.
