Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is considering a January swoop for Udinese midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu, according to reports from The Metro.

The Reds boss saw his side slip to a second defeat in two games at the hands of Chelsea yesterday, causing them to slide into fifth position after topping the Premier League table on Christmas day.

Injuries to the likes of Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge have exposed a lack of depth in the Merseyside club’s ranks, with teenagers Brad Smith and Jordan Rossiter taking up positions on the bench for the crunch clash at Stamford Bridge.

After the loss Rodgers bemoaned his deficiency of options, and is expected to delve into the transfer market in a bid to solve his problems.

Badu has emerged as a top target, with scouts from the club having been monitoring the 23-year-old for some time.

The Ghanaian is seen as one of Serie A’s top rising stars, and is known to have a desire to play in England.

A £7m bid is being mooted, with Rodgers keen to add the energetic defensive midfielder to his ranks to support the likes of Steven Gerrard, Lucas and Jordan Henderson.

Badu is also able to cover in multiple positions along the backline, making him a potentially useful addition for Liverpool.
