Liverpool are considering a £40m offer for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema as they plan for life without Luis Suarez, according to reports from The Metro.

The Reds are set to sell the 31 Premier League goal hero to Barcelona in a deal worth around £60m-£70m, which will leave a gaping hole in their attack.

Lazar Markovic is due to arrive at Anfield to follow the signings of Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Emre Can, but none of the quartet are a true replacement for ‘El Pistolero’.

Yet the Anfielders are ready to get in a big name to fill the void, with Benzema a target.

The France international – who netted three goals at the World Cup – is rumoured to be available for the right price, with Real Madrid eyeing a big money deal for Radamel Falcao.

Benzema has endured a difficult season in La Liga, with his impressive goal record – 17 in 35 – having not been enough to keep him clear of criticism from the fans.

Brendan Rodgers is ready to pay up to £40m to hand him a fresh start, and is hopeful that the lure of English football may be enough.
