Liverpool are plotting an end of season move for Lazio midfielder Antonio Candreva, according to reports from The Metro.

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is known to have made central reinforcements a priority for the coming transfer windows, with concerns surrounding the longevity of Steven Gerrard’s career pressing.

Candreva is seen as an ideal addition, and a player that the Northern Irishman sees as somebody who can slot straight into his first-team.

The 26-year-old has been one of Serie A’s more consistent performers in recent times, which has allowed him to force his way into Italy’s squad – making him a potential choice for the World Cup.

However, a deal for his signature is likely to be too complex to be pushed through this month, with Candreva part owned by Lazio and Udinese.

The Rome side themselves are lining up a £7m offer to take full control of the versatile midfielder, but Liverpool could thwart their hopes.

A switch may hinge on the Merseyside club’s ability to offer Candreva Champions League football, which could be possible if Rodgers’ side continue their form of the opening half of the season.
