Iago Aspas says that he will not call time on his Liverpool career this summer despite enduring a difficult debut campaign in the Premier League.

The Spanish forward arrived at Anfield from Celta Vigo last year with a reputation as one of La Liga’s top goal-getters on the back of a top campaign with the struggling side.

However he has failed to transfer the sort of form that saw him hit 37 goals in two seasons in his homeland to English football, notching just one effort – in the FA Cup against Oldham – despite the Reds’ impressive attacking showings.

The form of Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez allied to injury problems has contributed to his woes, which may well get worse with Fabio Borini set to come back from an impressive loan stint at Sunderland to battle for a first-term berth.

But the 27-year-old – who has already been linked with a move back to Spain – says that he is ready to prove himself at Liverpool:

“I have not thought about my future yet,” he is quoted by the Daily Star.

“I still have three more years under contract at the club. I took a big jump when I decided to move from Celta to Liverpool and I’m not going to jump off a bridge wanting to leave the club just one year after.”

But Aspas did admit that he’s finding his time at Liverpool hard:

“It’s hard to go from playing all the time at Celta to playing so little here.

“I am happy because of the team but a player is selfish and wants to play more. This is obvious.

“Confidence for a player is everything and it’s not the same when you play the whole game than when you just have five minutes in the second half.”
