Former Liverpool defender John Scales believes that Loic Remy will be a “big asset” for his old club next season.

The France international looks set to become the Reds’ fifth major arrival this summer, with an £8.5m fee having been agreed with QPR for his services.

Further to this, rumours suggest that Remy has settled on an £80,000-per-week contract and undergone a medical, with Liverpool’s pre-season tour in America the major factor holding up an official announcement.

Arsenal and Tottenham were also chasing the man who netted 14 goals while on loan at Newcastle last term, but Brendan Rodgers’ Premier League runners-up seem to have won the race.

Scales feels that with his know-how and proven record in English football, Remy will be a massive hit at Anfield:

“With Remy, the good thing is he knows the Premier League and he has performed well in the Premier League.” He is quoted by The Express.

“You haven’t got the same settling in period/risk as buying someone from overseas.

“He’s a world talent, an exciting player and he will be a big asset for Liverpool.

“It will be a good deal for Liverpool.”

Remy is likely to compete with Daniel Sturridge and Rickie Lambert following Luis Suarez’s exit, but he can also play on either flank.
