Former Liverpool star Jari Litmanan believes that Luis Suarez will shine in the Champions League next season.

The Reds guaranteed a return to top-level European action over the weekend, with the 3-2 win at Norwich securing a top three finish with three games to play.

Liverpool last featured in the tournament during the 2009/10 season, with a dip in form and changes in management over the course of the past few campaigns contributing to a lack of progress at Anfield.

Having joined the club in 2011, Suarez is yet to play Champions League football with the Merseysiders, and his 30 league goals this term have been instrumental in ensuring that that record is set come to an end.

Litmanen – who netted nine times in 48 showings for Liverpool – believes that the current Kop idol deserves to be playing in the competition and that he will justify his reputation by doing so:

“He is a goalscoring machine and very-well known, not only now here in England but in the whole world.” He told the club’s official website.

“Personally, as a fan, I want all of the top players playing at the highest level – and Suarez is one of the most dangerous strikers in the world.

“He is a player who can create something from nothing and he is really, really important for Liverpool.”
