Former Liverpool defender Mark Lawrenson says that he’s unsure as to whether or not Edinson Cavani is the right player to replace Luis Suarez.

With Alberto Moreno set to take the Reds’ new player count to EIGHT this summer in a £100m+ splurge, a new forward to fill the void left by ‘El Pistolero’ is understood to be the last piece of Brendan Rodgers transfer jigsaw puzzle.

A number of names have been mooted, with Cavani of Paris Saint-Germain a high profile target.

The Uruguayan only joined the Parisians last year, yet he’s already thought to be ready to leave after a frustrating campaign.

Reports in recent days have claimed that Liverpool have been in contact with his representatives, with the goal-getter understood to be open to a switch to England.

However Lawrenson isn’t sure that the 27-year-old is the right target for his old club:

“We move on to Cavani and I can’t really make my mind up on him.” He wrote in his column for the Liverpool Echo. “If he replicated the form he showed at Napoli then he would be a fantastic signing.

“Recently, though, he’s played second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic at PSG and Suarez with Uruguay so we’ve not seen him at his very best.

“You look around the market and there isn’t a lot out there.”
