Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is set to make a decision today as to whether or not he will make a serious move for Atletico Madrid’s Saul Niguez, according to reports from the Sunday People.

The Reds chief is believed to have held a private meeting with the Spaniard’s father last week to discuss a deal after missing out on Mohamed Salah – who looks set to join Chelsea.

Niguez – currently on loan at Rayo Vallecano – has emerged as one of La Liga’s finest young players this term after a series of impressive displays.

Despite being a regular starter at his temporary home, the 19-year-old is rumoured to be keen to make a big move this month.

Rodgers is believed to have scouts watching the midfielder closely, and he is ready to make a final call soon.

Niguez is understood to have a £20m release clause in his contract, but the Merseyside outfit are confident that an offer in the region of £12m will be enough to convince Atletico to sell.

Rodgers is desperate to bulk out his squad before the transfer deadline passes, with injuries to the likes of Lucas Leiva having left him short of cover.
