Fabio Borini expects to be a Liverpool player once the transfer deadline passes, despite interest from Sunderland and sides in Italy, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The versatile attacker has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield for much of the summer, with the Black Cats having tabled a £14m offer to make his loan stint from last season a permanent one.

However, Borini’s decision to stall has caused the Wearsiders to drop their interest, while rumoured admirers in Serie A – such as AC Milan and Napoli – have not yet made concrete offers.

As a result the 23-year-old is expecting to stay with the Reds and battle for his future.

Borini only joined Liverpool in 2012 from Roma in a £10.5m deal, and has struggled to make any impact on Merseyside.

Injury woes curtailed his first season, while last term he was sent to Sunderland for regular action.

Now he is likely to be behind Rickie Lambert, Daniel Sturridge and new boy Mario Balotelli in the fight for a spot up front, while a number of other players are able to play in a wide attacking role.
