Liverpool ponder move for Spanish winger
Liverpool are considering a move for Sporting Lisbon winger Diego Capel, according to reports from The Express.
Reds chief Brendan Rodgers will be given £20m to spend this summer in a bid to get the club back into the Premier League’s top four.
A centre-back is believed to be the Northern Irishman’s priority, but he is also keen to improve his attacking options.
One area in which the ex-Swansea manager is looking to add cover is out wide, leading him to consider Capel.
The Spaniard has endured an underwhelming season with Sporting, notching just two goals from an advanced position.
With the club’s financial worries, they are believed to be willing to offload their man for a reduced fee, a stance which has alerted a number of European sides, including Liverpool.
The 25-year-old would, likely, jump at the chance of a fresh start, meaning a deal could be concluded swiftly.
During his spell with former club Sevilla, Capel was regarded as one of the continent’s top emerging talents, but his development has slowed since his move to Lisbon in 2011.
The wide man has been capped at almost every level for Spain, winning two with the senior squad after making his debut in 2008.
Capel’s pace and technical ability could make him an ideal fit in Rodgers’ system.
