Liverpool are planning to offer Newcastle attacker Hatem Ben Arfa a Premier League lifeline this summer, according to reports from The Metro.

The skilful Frenchman is looking likely to be allowed to leave St James’ Park at the end of the season after falling out with manager Alan Pardew.

The Magpies chief has banned Ben Arfa from first-team training and is unlikely to backtrack on his decision with the pair’s relationship thought to have passed breaking point.

The player himself has expressed a desire to stay at the club, but Liverpool are already planning a move to lure him to Anfield.

Although there are question marks surrounding Ben Arfa’s work rate and fitness, Brendan Rodgers is believed to see him as a player who could fit into his squad as he plans additions ahead of a Champions League campaign.

An offer of £6m is said to be on the cards, which may be accepted by the Tynesiders purely to end the current situation.

Ben Arfa – a senior France international – has represented Lyon and Marseille in the past, where he is said to have endured off-field problems.
