Brendan Rodgers insists he won’t be in the market for his biggest rivals’ targets this summer, as reported by the Express.

The Reds were reportedly lining up a further £60million worth of transfers before the end of the current transfer window and were planning to rival Man United and Chelsea for Juventus’ Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba, and Borrusia Dortmund’s Marco Reus.

But Rodgers admits he will not be forced in to spending just for the sake of it and that every transfer will be thought out carefully.

He said: “What we can’t do is spend for the sake of it.

“The players we’ve brought in were players we needed anyway.  Our signings are strategic ones. They are not just names. They all fit into the purpose of the team, but of course we want them to make a contribution.

“If that means we do not spend all the money or the net spend is the same, then so be it.”

Rodgers is expecting four new arrivals this week, with QPR’s Loic Remy and Atletico Madrid’s Javier Manquillo soon to be followed by Lille’s Divock Origi and Southampton’s Dejan Lovren.

Where does it state he does not want a powerhouse forward???? He only says he will not pay over the odds for a player like moreno. I think the value of £16mill is right on the money. Other clubs think they can sell premium to lfc because now that we have money to spend from suarez funds. Theyll pay the value for vidal/reus/pogba if they think the market value is right.

He said that he wouldn’t spend for the sake of it. He didn’t say those players don’t fit into the LFC philosophy.

Also Vidal has confirmed he won’t be moving to United so your article is shoddy and poor
