Luis Suarez has been handed a nine match and four month ban from all footballing activity after biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini.

The Liverpool striker, who was has previously been convicted of biting players on two separate occasions, is not even allowed to train with both Uruguay or Liverpool until his ban is over.

An official press release said: “The player Luis Suarez is to be suspended for nine official matches.

“The first match of this suspension is to be served in the upcoming FIFA World Cup fixture between Columbia and Uruguay on 28 June 2014.

“The remaining match suspensions shall be served in Uruguay’s next FIFA World Cup match(es), as long as the team qualifies, and/or in the representative team’s subsequent official matches.”
