Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling is closing in on a spot in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the World Cup, according to reports from The Mirror.

The 19-year-old wide-man has been in fantastic form of late, with his two goal showing against Arsenal over the weekend the latest in a long run of impressive displays.

He has settled into Brendan Rodgers’ first-team squad over the winter period, forming a fearsome attacking triumvirate with Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez.

Hodgson has noticed his razor-sharp outings, and is ready to call him up for the upcoming March friendly with Denmark.

With Theo Walcott likely to miss the World Cup through injury, a spot in the 23-man selection is up for grabs, and the Three Lions coach is seriously considering Sterling if he impresses both at international level and with his club side.

The teenager already has a senior England cap after being called up when he was just 17, but is relatively inexperienced at the top level.

He is in competition with the likes of Sunderland’s Adam Johnson and Andros Townsend of Tottenham, who may also be given chances by Hodgson.
