Liverpool defender Kolo Toure still feels that his side are in the race for the Premier League title, despite their shock home draw with Aston Villa.

The Reds fought back from a 2-0 deficit to save a point at Anfield against the Midlanders after a woeful opening 40 minutes.

Liverpool had topped the table on Christmas day, but defeats to Manchester City, Chelsea and the draw against Villa – which were separated by wins against Stoke and Hull – have seen them drop away from the summit.

However Toure – who has been enjoying a spell in the starting XI thanks to Daniel Agger and Mamadou Sakho’s injury problems – says that the Merseyside outfit are still capable of lifting the trophy later this year:

“We are still in that [title race] because every team can lose points. For us we just need to think about the next game 100 per cent, try to win and be positive,” he is quoted by The Metro.

“What we have done so far no-one was expecting at the start of the season.

“We need to take that on board and just keep going. When you have hard times you see a strong team and we are a strong team.

“Other teams will make errors. We just need to maintain our focus and believe in ourselves. In 16 games a lot can happen.”

Liverpool’s next league game sees them host local rivals Everton, who could be ahead of them in the table before the game kicks off.
