Liverpool to make improved offer for Inter star
Liverpool are readying an £8m bid for Inter Milan midfielder Philippe Coutinho, after seeing their initial offer rebuffed by the Italians.
The Reds are keen to bring the Brazilian to the Premier League, with manager Brendan Rodgers looking to strengthen his attacking options.
Inter rejected the Merseysiders’ initial £6.8m bid, and are believed to be holding out for around £10m.
However, Liverpool are unwilling to match that figure, having already parted with £12m for Daniel Sturridge.
Despite the interest, Coutinho played down talk of a move, stating that he is happy to remain at the San Siro:
“The Liverpool offer? I’m happy with these offers, because it means I am doing my job well.” He is quoted by The Mirror.
“But I think Inter have faith in me and I want to show my value here. I don’t feel that I’m on my way out. I hope to stay at Inter.”
However, there are rumours that the 20-year-old has declared his desire to join Liverpool privately.
It is believed that he has told fellow countryman, and Reds midfielder, Lucas that he is highly interested in moving to England, and would jump at the chance to play at Anfield.
Rodgers would be able to offer Coutinho a greater chance of first-team football, with chances at Inter limited.
