Liverpool are plotting a move for AC Milan midfielder Nigel de Jong after it was confirmed that lucas Leiva will miss around two months of action, according to reports from The Express.

The Brazilian ace was forced to finish his brief outing against Aston Villa over the weekend early due to a knee problem, and is now set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

With the South American Liverpool’s only true holding midfielder, Brendan Rodgers is keen to snap up a replacement in a bid to keep his side in the race for a top four finish.

De Jong is seen as the ideal man to come in, with the experienced Dutch international having developed a reputation for his committed playing style.

The 29-year-old only left Manchester City to join Milan in 2012, and Rodgers is believed to be attracted to his knowledge of the Premier League.

However negotiations with the Italian giants may prove to be tricky, with new boss Clarence Seedorf said to be keen to keep his compatriot.

But, de Jong could be tempted by a return to England, with the San Siro side currently underperforming in Serie A.
