Joe Cole has vowed to fight for his Liverpool FC future after reminding manager Brendan Rodgers of his ability following his goal at West Ham on Sunday, the Daily Mail reports.

The former England midfielder has had a tough time at Anfield following his switch from Chelsea in 2010, but he came off the bench at the weekend to score and put in a strong display as Liverpool beat West Ham, the club where Cole began his career, 3-2.

He told the Mirror: “All I’m doing is giving my all in training every day, and trying to keep my place in the squad when we play Villa – that’s all I can do.

“It has been difficult recently but I have scored in my last two appearances and I want to keep the sequence going if I can. And when I’m called upon I will do the best job I can.”

It had been thought that Cole’s career at Liverpool may be coming to an end with the Reds believed to be edging ever closer to sealing deals for forwards Daniel Sturridge from Chelsea, as well as bringing back Thomas Ince who left the club just 18 months ago from Blackpool.

The combined fee for the two is expected to be in the region of £18million and if the signings do happen, this would further damage Cole’s chances of first team football.

Cole, 31, has also been linked with moves to former club West Ham as well as Premier League strugglers QPR in a bid to gain regular starting opportunities.
