Dejan Lovren is still keen to push through a summer move to Liverpool despite returning to pre-season training with Southampton, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Croatian centre-back is a rumoured target for the Reds, who are understood to have had an initial £20m offer for his signature turned down by the Saints.

Lovren himself was angered by the backtracking from his club, who he believed to have agreed to sell him if such a sum was offered.

The defender said in the aftermath of the incident that he already considered himself to be “at Liverpool”, and that it would be tough for him to return to post-World Cup training with Southampton.

However, the 25-year-old has indeed linked up with the squad after being slammed by new manager Ronald Koeman for his behaviour.

Yet, it is understood that he still wants to force through a switch to Anfield before the new season starts.

Lovren would become the third player to swap St Mary’s for Merseyside this summer, following Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert to the North West.

Jay Rodriguez may also make the move, with reports claiming he’s the latest Liverpool target.

Lovren has kept completely quiet since returning to pre-season training and going to Belgium with the Saints first team. So how on earth can The Star report that he is “still” desperate to move? They have no idea how he feels right now!. The media already made the situation worse by distorting the facts – something both Lovren and Southampton are now aware of. Lovren will have plenty of time to chat to Ronald Koeman who is adamant that he will stay with the Saints. It is extremely unlikely that Lovren will now leave but if the reconciliation is not possible then Southamption would not budge on the £25m and may ask for even more. Other clubs need to take note of this – Southampton are now flushed with funds and will NOT be selling any more players – end of story. The Star should be printing that – not stirring things up . The media need to show far more responsibility rather than cooking up false stories. For the record, Jay Rod is definitely not for sale at any price (unless Liverpool want to re-invest all the £75m they got for Suarez!!!
