To be fair, a thought provoking and interesting article. Yes, at the end of the day, if a club, whether through owner, director of football or other (Emanalo); choose to buy a sufficient crop of good talent then any half decent manager should make it work, you'd think...I do however, believe in the smaller picture - ie - what if said manager simply doesn't click with said 'class' player, a la Mourinho alot it would seem. In other words, yes it can work but the manager should always have input and at least get to meet the potential signing before a deal is completed. We've all had scenarios in life where it should work but simply doesn't with people who work well with others but not all. A squad of 22-25 sounds alot but in working life it simply isn't but a big load of personalities managed by one.

Love the term"reportedly" concerning the feelings of AVB. Now let's translate "reportedly" into real English. It means there are no quotes or evidence-just the scurrilous myths(AKA baseless assumptions?) made up by wannabe journalists to create a story. Oh for the days before the internet where writers had to put up or shut up!! Now the net allows people to publish unounded allegations as fact by remote. Sad? No -shameful.
