Probably the defender most Liverpool fans would want their club to sign, Mats Hummels would be a fantastic acquisition.
The German international has been the driving force behind much of the success at Borussia Dortmund in recent years and would even rival the likes of Vincent Kompany and Nemanja Vidic to being one of the most able defenders in the Premier League should he move to England.
However, his potential fee could be way out of Liverpool’s budget, and unless they secure Champions League football there is little chance of him jumping ship while everything is going well for the German club.
However, defensive partner Neven Subotic has been a solid performer, since signing for Dortmund in 2008 and would be in a lower price range to Hummels.
Subotic might be the financial compromise Brendan Rodgers could accept and still make improvements to the first-team squad, as he could easily rival Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger for a place in the Liverpool Starting XI.
