Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk have claimed that Liverpool were at fault for the failed deadline swoop for Yevhen Konoplyanka.

The Ukrainian winger was expected to complete a move from his homeland to Anfield on Friday, but a deal could not be finalized in time.

Reports have suggested that the Reds had agreed personal terms and conducted a medical with the winger, but were then thwarted by Dnipro’s owner’s refusal to sign off the transfer, despite his release clause having been triggered.

But, the Eastern European side are furious at allegations that they were underhand in their desire to keep Konoplyanka at the club.

Their managing director, Andriy Rusol, says that it was Liverpool’s fault that a deal was not reached, and that his outfit are not guilty of any wrongdoing:

“Firstly, our president had no choice to keep the player,” he is quoted by The Metro.

“His contract has a specific release clause.

“The truth is Liverpool did not have time to complete the transaction. We could not sign the documents until we received the money in our account and they did not send it before the deadline.

“The president, Igor Kolomoysky gave the go-ahead for the deal as soon as the clubs reached agreement.

“The time issue was not our fault. Liverpool’s executives could have arrived a day or two earlier.”

Liverpool have been linked with a fresh move for Konoplyanka when the transfer window re-opens, and Rusol says that a deal could be done then:

“Yehven is a very strong person,

“He knows his move to a big club is only a matter of time.”
