Champions League ambitions at Anfield.

The Uruguayan striker made little secret of his desire to leave the Reds over the summer, with securing European football one of the reasons he offered.

Suarez chased a switch to Real Madrid, but was also open to joining Arsenal.

However Liverpool held form to keep their talismanic forward, who has since apologised for his actions and returned to the first-team following a 10 match ban.

But, rumours that he is still keen to move on have circulated, with a January move to Real being mooted.

Despite Liverpool’s lengthy absence from the Champions League – 2009 was the last time they featured in the competition – Rodgers believes that Suarez can achieve his aims on Merseyside:

“This is the place for Luis to showcase his talents. He is a player, like some of our other players, who deserves to be playing at the highest level of European football but we believe he can do that at Liverpool.” He is quoted by talkSPORT.

“There is no greater stage for him than a club like this and once the window was shut there was never going to be an issue, he is a player we were really happy to keep.

“He is one of the most hard-working players I’ve seen, he’s in love with football, and once the window shut he has been brilliant.”

Liverpool are currently on course to qualify for the Champions League after an impressive start to the season.

Is Brendan Rodgers right? Or should Luis Suarez leave Liverpool?
